The Real IS AG Company for Real Estate Asset Management , based in Munich is a German initiator and manager of real estate investments. The subsidiary of Bayerische Landesbank (BayernLB) manages real estate assets of around seven billion euros in eleven countries (as of December 31, 2018) and has branches and subsidiaries in France, Spain, Luxembourg, Australia and the Netherlands.

Companies

The company was founded in 1991 as "Bayernfonds Immobilien GmbH" and launched its first fund in the same year , with which the company invested in the new federal states . The first foreign fund followed in 1998. Institutional investors have also been served since 2000 and the name was changed to Real IS AG along with a corresponding change in the corporate form.

In 2005 the company was the first German provider with funds specializing in Australian real estate. In 2009, the wholly owned subsidiary of BayernLB, which is also part of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe , achieved market leadership for closed-end real estate funds in Germany .

In 2014 it was fully licensed as a capital management company , two years later Real IS raised more than one billion euros in equity from investors for the first time within a calendar year. In 2018, Real IS achieved a real estate transaction volume of around 1.5 billion euros with real estate assets under management worth 7.4 billion euros.

Jochen Schenk has been CEO since October 2018.

Services and products

The Bayerische Landesbank (BayernLB) banking group bundles its asset management business in Real IS AG and the other subsidiary "BayernInvest". The company's investment offerings are aimed at both private and institutional investors; in addition to private investors, customers also include banks and insurance companies as well as pension funds, foundations and other companies. The most frequently represented asset classes are office, retail / logistics and hotels.

The company specializes in active asset management, i. H. the systems are managed directly by employees of Real IS AG. The company's foreign branches in France, Spain, Luxembourg, Australia and the Netherlands take care of individual properties on site. In Germany, Real IS's active property management is also regionally present with branches in Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden, Leipzig and Jena.

According to its own information, Real IS AG has managed the investments of 65,000 private investors since it was founded and launched 48 closed-end real estate funds by the end of 2016. The equity placed amounted to approx. 3.1 billion euros. Around 450 million euros of this went to alternative investments in air travel and private equity as well as other asset classes. The total volume of real estate managed abroad is around 43 percent of the managed systems.

For institutional and other professional investors, Real IS not only manages closed funds but also individual investments in real estate. A worldwide network of partners is entrusted with the asset management of the individual properties. The portfolio includes well-known architectural monuments such as the Ernst-August-Carrée in Hanover or the Mossehaus in Berlin.

To support the operative business, Real IS AG runs an independent research department, which regularly publishes special and general analyzes on the development of international markets and the real estate sector. In addition, there is a cooperation in the research area with the International Real Estate Business School of the University of Regensburg and the EBS University for Economics and Law .

At the end of 2016, the managed equity of institutional investors amounted to around 2.2 billion euros. In the 2018 financial year, Real IS acquired capital commitments in the institutional area of ​​around 677 million euros.
