Real Sociedad Deportiva de Zacatecas , usually just shortened to Real Sociedad de Zacatecas , was a Mexican football club from the city ​​of Zacatecas , located in the state of the same name . He played his home games at the Estadio Francisco Villa .

Prehistory (Mineros de Zacatecas)

For the first time in the 1986/87 season, the city - and with it the entire state - was represented in professional football by the Mineros de Zacatecas . The club was relegated from the second division after just one season and was dissolved another season later, so it only had an existence of two years. Under the same name, a new club was founded with effect from May 28, 2014, which received a starting place in the second division.

History of Real Sociedad

With the establishment of Real Sociedad de Zacatecas in 1996 and his inclusion in the Primera División 'A' at the beginning of the 1996/97 season, a new chapter began in the history of Zacatecas professional football.

In their first half-season (Invierno 1996), the newly formed team reached the semi-finals, where they were clearly defeated 0: 2 and 1: 5 against Atlético Hidalgo . In the second half-season (Verano 1997) Real Sociedad was group winners before the later promoted CF Pachuca and advanced in the play-offs to the final. There they met again on Pachuca and this time lost just 1: 2 and 0: 0.

In the following seasons, Real Sociedad was only able to qualify for the play-offs twice: In the 1999 Torneo Invierno , the first round tournament of the 1999/00 season, Real failed in the semifinals against the later champions and promoted Deportivo Irapuato (0: 1 and 1: 1) and a year later, in the quarter-finals of the Torneo Invierno 2000, against the eventual master Gallos de Aguascalientes (2: 3 and 0: 1).

After the 2002/03 season, the club's license for the right to play in the Primera División 'A' was transferred to the Estudiantes de Altamira FC and the team dissolved by Real Sociedad. Since then, no club from Zacatecas has been represented in the second Mexican soccer league .
