Entrance to the RG / WRG Feldgasse

The secondary school and grammar school Wirtschaftskundliche Feldgasse , shortly RG / WRG 8 Feldgasse, is a general education high school in the 8th Viennese district of Josefstadt . The school was founded in 1912 as a private school for girls . There are currently 22 classes taught. The Nobel Prize winner Elfriede Jelinek is the most famous Schulabgängerin.

School history

In 1912 the school was founded, at that time still under the name "Mädchenrealgymnasium Albertgasse" at the suggestion of Marianne Hainisch . In 1914, the newly built school building in Albertgasse (Josefstadt) was moved into. In 1920 part of the school was nationalized and school radio , ski courses and swimming lessons were introduced. In 1938, almost two thirds of the students and some of the teachers had to leave school because of racist and political persecution by the Nazi regime. In 1945 the school was reopened with a new faculty and initially only a few students. Only about 170 students attended the school at that time. Changes in the number of students did not occur until two decades later. In 1976 the girls' school became a mixed school, and the “MRg VIII” became the “GRg8 / A38”. In 1994 the school moved to Feldgasse under the direction of director Regina Bretterbauer. In 2000 the Feldgasse got a new director, Marliese Pick.

Projects and school trials

For several years now, Feldgasse has been a pilot school in many areas and has carried out some new projects and school trials. One example is the “Dual Language Program”, which will be tested for the first time in the 2006/2007 school year. Furthermore, there has been the “Modular Upper School” since 2006, which is similar to America's compulsory elective system. It has the advantage that it is practically impossible to remain seated . The subjects become modules, each lasting one semester. If you fail to do one thing, you can repeat it in the second semester or you can “sit down” in this module and do it until you graduate .
