The Rebec-Hof is a council in the 19th Vienna district Döbling . It was built in 1929 according to plans by the architect Rudolf Goebel and comprises 23 apartments.

location

The Rebec-Hof is located in the Döblinger cadastral municipality of Oberdöbling . The residential complex was built in a vacant lot on Flotowgasse and has the official address Flotowgasse 12. Immediately opposite is the community building at Weinberggasse 17.

History and structure

The building, erected as a “people's home”, was erected only five years after the nearby Karl-Mark-Hof . The architect tried to adapt the two-flight residential complex to the surrounding bourgeois houses. Three parcels were used as the building site, which enabled the construction of a building with a long street front. At the northern end of the building, Goebl added the community building to an existing building; the southern front initially remained free-standing until an adjacent garden was also built after the Second World War.

Due to the hillside location, the architect planned a basement ground floor on which he added two floors and an attic. According to his plans, Goebl would have implemented the facade design in two colors, which would have visually separated the floors. Ultimately, however, the house was only painted in one color, which means that the clinker facing on the base and between the striking bay windows stand out particularly clearly. As further stylistic elements, Goebl chose two polygonal oriel towers that open into dormer windows. The building also has a long gable and two balconies above the entrance area. Like the street front, the courtyard facade is strictly symmetrical (without balconies).

Originally the Rebec-Hof was supposed to house two shops, which were merged during the construction period. In the 1930s a library was set up in Rebec-Hof. In 1949 the community building was named after Ernst Rebec (1888–1934). He had taken part in the defense of the Karl-Mark-Hof in 1934 and died in the fighting. Opposite the Rebechof and in the immediate vicinity, numerous other community buildings were built in the 1950s. In 2007 the base of the Rebec-Hof was renovated, the roof was renewed, windows and doors were replaced and thermal insulation was installed. The renovation costs amounted to around 460,000 euros.
