Rudolf Goebel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rudolf (Franz) Goebel (born April 15, 1872 in Vienna ; † May 30, 1952 there ) was an Austrian architect who mainly worked in Vienna . Goebel, the son of a hat maker, graduated from the Vienna State Trade School, then worked in various studios from 1889 to 1896. In autumn 1895 he began studying with Otto Wagner at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna , which he broke off after the first semester. Nevertheless, he subsequently became one of the busiest architects in Vienna at the turn of the century.

Works

Above all, Goebel built residential, commercial and rental houses and villas for the wealthy Viennese upper middle class. The Kaiserin-Elisabeth-Gedächtniskirche on the Hochschneeberg in Lower Austria, which he built between 1899 and 1901, was his only public building. One of the few public contracts in 1929 was the construction of the “ Rebec-Hof ” residential complex in the 19th district, which is his last known building and is under monument protection ( list entry ).
