Rake bridge

The rake bridge is a prestressed concrete bridge in the municipality of Mariazell in Styria , over which the only access road to Weichselboden leads over the Radmerbach. The State of Vienna is responsible for their preservation .

History and description

When the City of Vienna acquired land for the construction of the Second Vienna High Spring Water Pipeline , the Liezen District Authority , which was responsible for clarifying matters relating to water law, obliged it to maintain roads and bridges, among other things.

Since checks by the responsible municipal department (MA) 29 - Bridge and Foundation Construction, especially on the wooden pillars of the bridge, found increasing damage to the bridge built in 1968, the payload was initially reduced to 16 tons. Nevertheless, the condition of the bridge deteriorated and a new building was necessary.

In the sixth meeting of the Vienna City Council , an unscheduled expenditure of 700,000 euros was approved for the new construction of the Rechenbrücke and Schneiderbrücke in Weichselboden, a cadastral municipality of Mariazell.

On May 2, 2011, pioneers of the Austrian Armed Forces began to erect a temporary bridge, which was then lifted in using a crane. It was also removed by crane after the new bridge was opened to traffic in November of the same year. After the demolition of the old wooden bridge began in June, the new bridge was built by the Traunfellner company under the supervision of MA 29.

The new bridge, 40.7 meters long and 6.3 meters wide, was designed as an open, two-cell reinforced concrete frame with a wooden bridge railing at the side.
