The Court of Justice of the Confederation of Protestant Churches in Lower Saxony was established as a church court by resolution of the Synod of the Confederation of Protestant Churches in Lower Saxony in 1973. The legal court has its seat in Hanover .

The legal court is the joint constitutional , administrative and disciplinary court of the Confederation of Protestant Churches, the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Hanover , the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church in Braunschweig , the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg and the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Schaumburg-Lippe .

For example, it decides on questions of the constitution about the interpretation of the treaty on the formation of a confederation of Protestant churches in Lower Saxony, if there are differences of opinion between organs of the confederation about the scope of their rights and obligations, about the compatibility of church laws and ordinances.

In administrative matters he decides z. B. on the application for the annulment of an administrative act or on lawsuits by church bodies against decisions of the supervisory authorities, which they take in the exercise of the supervision of church bodies.

In the case of disciplinary proceedings, the Court of Justice decides in accordance with the provisions of the Disciplinary Act of the Evangelical Church in Germany (DG.EKD).

Organization and occupation

The judiciary consists of the president (since 2004 Ilsemarie Meyer ), the vice-president, the chairman of the Chamber for Disciplinary Matters, as well as assessors and deputy assessors. It is divided into the Senate for Constitutional Matters, the Senate for Administrative Matters and the Chamber for Disciplinary Matters. The members are appointed by the Council of the Confederation for a period of 6 years. The disciplinary chamber is also responsible for the VELKD area . The court of appeal is the constitutional and administrative court of the VELKD in administrative matters, and the EKD ecclesiastical court in disciplinary matters .
