Right angle technology

The right-angle technique (also: right-angle projection) is a dental X-ray technique (modified after W. Hielscher, 1955 and Pasler, 1981).

The X-ray film (usually 2 × 3 cm or 3 × 4 cm) is rigidly connected to the tube of the X-ray tube via a holder . As a result, the central ray (dashed green in the drawing) is always perpendicular to the film axis (blue in the drawing). The holder is aligned so that the film axis is also aligned parallel to the tooth axis .

Ideally, the parallel technique and the right-angle technique should produce identical recordings, since the aim in both techniques is that the film and tooth planes are parallel and the central beam is perpendicular on both planes.

Advantages: The relationship between the central ray and the image plane is always ensured on the basis of the right-angle projection. When setting, only the object-image-receiver relationship has to be established. The holding rod serves as a target device and at the same time ensures the focus-image receiver distance.

Disadvantages: The rigid holding rod connected to the device makes handling difficult. In the case of imprecise work, a setting that is too steep or too shallow is also possible here.
