Von der Recke von der Horst is the name of an old Westphalian noble family. The ancestor of the von der Recke von der Horst family , Johann zu Camen, was born in 1546 and died in 1609.

history

Diederich, son John inherited, together with his wife Sybille of Loë the Horst Castle in the Vest Recklinghausen. Diederich died in 1625 and left Schloss and Herrlichkeit Horst to his son Johann Bertram von der Recke. It is known that Johann Bertram had two sons.

Hermann Diederich was born on March 9, 1640 and was initially Lord of Horst and Heydemühlen. He sold Horst Castle and then acquired a representative knight's seat on the Lippe.

Hermann Diederich's grandson, Diederich v. d. Recke v. d. Horst died in 1796. He also had two sons, of which only a few have been handed down and documented. However, the Reck family chronicle shows that it cannot be ruled out that descendants of this line still exist today. Hermann Diederich von der Horst, who died in 1820, appeared here in 1740.

Little is known about Hermann Diederich's brother, Johann Adolf († 1736). However, we know from his great-grandson Friedrich Gustav that he studied theology and was active as a writer. In addition, he was appointed general superintendent of Schaumburg-Lippe.

Recognition of nobility

On April 9, 1677, Emperor Leopold Johann Bertram von der Recke and all his descendants made hereditary imperial barons. The members of this branch of the family now called themselves Reichsfreiherren von der Recke von der Horst . One of the best-known representatives of the Recke von der Horst line was the District President Eberhard von der Recke von der Horst (1847-1911).
