Gustav Wilhelm Eberhard Freiherr von der Recke von der Horst (born April 2, 1847 in Berlin , † April 16, 1911 in Münster ) was a German administrative lawyer and politician.

origin

He came from the old Westphalian aristocracy and was the son of the real secret finance councilor August Ludwig von der Recke von der Horst (* November 15, 1809 - December 26, 1869) and his wife Bertha Krönigk (* February 27, 1812 - November 5 1887).

Life

Von der Recke studied law at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin and the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg from 1864 to 1867 . He took part in the Franco-Prussian War in 1870/71 as a reserve officer in the 2nd Guard Dragon Regiment. After his legal clerkship at the Berlin Court of Appeal , he was a court assessor at various district courts until 1875 .

From 1877 to 1881 he served as district administrator in the Eckernförde district before he held various functions in the Prussian Ministry of the Interior until 1885 .

He was then president of the government district of Königsberg until 1889, and in 1889 changed to the same function in the Rhine province of Düsseldorf. From there he was appointed Prussian Minister of the Interior in 1895 and held this office until 1899. Before he retired, he took over the function of Upper President of the Province of Westphalia until 1911 .

Eberhard von der Recke von der Horst died in Münster in 1911 at the age of 64 and was buried in the Old St. Matthew Cemetery in Schöneberg near Berlin. His widow Maria geb. Von Laer had acquired a hereditary burial for this and later had a three-axis wall grave made of clinker and sandstone built there by the master builder Carl Mittag, which has been preserved. The complex impresses above all with the artistically carved family coat of arms. However, part of the sculptural jewelry has been lost.

He married Maria von Laer on October 14, 1885 (born April 5, 1866). The couple had several children:
