Baron Adolph Theodor von Spiegel-Borlinghausen and zu Peckelsheim (born November 1, 1792 in Borlinghausen Castle in the Prince Diocese of Paderborn ; † April 26, 1852 in Sigmaringen ) was initially an officer in the service of the Kingdom of Westphalia and later Prussia . family

He came from the Westphalian nobility family von Spiegel with a focus on the prince-bishopric of Paderborn . He received approval to continue the title of baron from the Prussian authorities in 1847. His father was Karl Franz Theodor von Spiegel. The mother was Maria Franziska (born von Westphalen zu Heidelbeck). He himself married Wilhelmine Franziska von Spiegel (née von Vagedes), his brother's widow, in 1833. He took over his family's property.

Military career

Von Spiegel was an ensign in the service of the Principality of Waldeck in 1803/04 . He then attended the Lyceum in Kassel and in 1808 became the first page at the court of the King of Westphalia, Jérôme Bonaparte . He later entered the kingdom's military service. In 1810 he was a first lieutenant in the 2nd Westphalian Hussar Regiment and in 1811 in the Garde-Chevaux-Legers-Regiment. He took part in the campaign to Russia in 1812 and was promoted to Rittmeister in 1813 . In 1814, after Prussia took possession of the former duchy of Paderborn, his military rank was confirmed and von Spiegel was appointed chief of the 2nd squadron in the 15th Landwehr regiment. In 1829 he resigned from active military service.

Civil service

In 1831 he was unanimously elected as the first candidate for the office of district administrator of the Paderborn district. He then passed the relevant exam and was appointed district administrator in 1832. As early as 1834 he moved to the government in Koblenz as Vice President . From 1837 he was the district president in Düsseldorf . Already in August 1848 consideration was given to retiring or transferring him to Arnsberg . On November 3, 1849, von Spiegel was put into temporary retirement. In 1850 he was commissioned to take possession of the principalities of Hohenzollern-Hechingen and Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen . In 1852, the year he died, he was dismissed from civil service.
