Johann Eduard Christoph Freiherr von Schleinitz (born August 28, 1798 in Littschen in the Marienwerder district ; † June 4, 1869 Moschen in the Neustadt OS district ) was a Prussian civil servant, real Privy Councilor and President of the Province of Silesia (1848-1869).

Life

origin

Johann Eduard came from the Meissen family von Schleinitz . He was the son of Karl von Schleinitz (1751–1807), President of the Prussian Supreme Court, and his second wife, Friederike, born von Rosenberg-Gruszczynski (1774–1845). The Prussian Major General Gustav von Schleinitz was his stepbrother from his father's first marriage.

Career

Schleinitz grew up in Berlin and joined the Prussian Army as a war volunteer after attending a grammar school . He served in the 8th Hussar Regiment in the Napoleonic War of Liberation in 1815 . As a lieutenant , he retired from the army and studied law.

In 1822 he entered the administrative service of the royal government of Marienwerder as an assessor . In the same year on August 31, he was appointed district administrator in the Konitz district and remained in the post until 1827. His other posts were that of government vice-president in the Koblenz district (1837–1842) and the post of district president in the Bromberg district (1842– 1848). Briefly worked in 1848 as the provisional district president in the Liegnitz district , on November 21, 1848, he became chief president of the province of Silesia.

Since 1855 he has held the title of a Royal Prussian Real Secret Council.

From 1857 he was curator of the Silesian Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Breslau and in 1861 received honorary doctorates from the philosophical and medical faculties .

family

Schleinitz married Jeanette von Hippel (1804–1850) in 1822 . From this marriage he had six daughters and five sons, including:

His second marriage to Maria von Hippel (1817–1890), which he entered into in 1853, had another daughter:
