Walter von Sybel

Walter von Sybel (born February 13, 1883 in Gummersbach ; † June 15, 1973 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian administrative lawyer . As district president, he headed the Koblenz administrative district from 1929 to 1933.

Life

His parents were the district administrator Fritz von Sybel (1844-1927) and his wife Bertha Rolffs (1856-1943).

He got his education at a grammar school in Berlin, where he graduated from high school in 1900. He then studied law at the universities in Freiburg im Breisgau and Bonn. In 1904 Sybel began his legal career as a court referendar . From 1917 to 1920 he worked as a district administrator in the Dill district . At the end of his tenure as district administrator, he was already working in the Ministry of the Interior in Berlin. After further legal positions, he was appointed Vice President in the Koblenz administrative district in 1924. From 1929 to 1933 he then held the post of district president in Koblenz . In May 1933 Sybel was put into temporary retirement, although von Sybel had joined the NSDAP. In September 1933 he was appointed director at the Wiesbaden Administrative Court. During the war from 1940 to 1943 he was a Wehrmacht officer in Liège and Paris and from 1945 deputy district administrator of the Untertaunus district in Bad Schwalbach. He was arrested by the US Army in March 1945 and interned in Idar-Oberstein.

In 1946 he returned to Wiesbaden and was employed there in 1947 at the Hessian Ministry for Political Liberation. From 1948 to 1949 he was assistant judge or administrative judge at the Wiesbaden Administrative Court, but retired in 1949.

In 1953 he received the Federal Cross of Merit .

He married Beryl Edith Higgins called Held on June 11, 1906 in Bonn (born November 17, 1885 in Lahore / India; † December 30, 1945 in Wiesbaden). Daughter of lawyer Thomas Frederick Higgins and Elisabeth Jennings.
