Karl Friedrich Leo Freiherr von Massenbach (born July 28, 1797 in Insterburg , † November 12, 1880 in Düsseldorf ) was a lawyer and royal Prussian civil servant.

origin

Massenbach comes from the north German line of the noble family of the Massenbach, originally from Swabia . His parents were the Prussian Major General Karl von Massenbach (1752-1821) and his wife Charlotte, née de Genée (1758-1851).

Life

He graduated from elementary school in East Prussia, attended Werdersche Gymnasium and then studied law in Berlin. During the Wars of Liberation in 1815, Massenbach served as a volunteer in the Guard Jäger battalion and took part in the parade in Paris . Then he entered the Prussian civil service. At first he embarked on a career in justice and in 1825 became a judicial judge in Berlin. From 1828 he worked as an assessor at the court in Arnsberg .

Later he switched to the administrative service. In 1830, Massenbach was a councilor in Arnsberg and then in Düsseldorf. In 1834 he was appointed to the Oberregierungsrat in Koblenz . From 1837 he held the same position in Düsseldorf. From 1842 to 1850 he was government vice-president in Koblenz and from 1850 to 1866 district president in Düsseldorf. On the occasion of his resignation from office, he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Düsseldorf in 1866 .

family

Massenbach married Karoline Stettler (1809–1877), a daughter of the President of the Higher Regional Court, Stettler. The couple had several children:
