Karl Friedrich von Oertzen (born January 22, 1844 in Rostock , † November 9, 1914 in Weimar ) was a German administrative lawyer and minister.

Life

Karl Friedrich von Oertzen belonged to the old Mecklenburg noble family of Oertzen and was a son of the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg-Schwerin State Minister Jasper von Oertzen and his wife Amanda nee. Schuback. Jasper von Oertzen was another son of the couple.

Karl Friedrich von Oertzen studied law at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the Georg-August University of Göttingen . He was a member of the Corps Saxonia Göttingen (1864) and the Corps Suevia Tübingen (1865). From July 1875 he worked in the Foreign Office . On May 27, 1880 he was provisional district administrator of the Schlüchtern district , from August 16, 1880 to 1889, district administrator of the Grevenbroich district , then, from March 2, 1889, of the Hanau district . During this time he was also a member of the Kassel communal parliament and from 1892 to 1894 in the provincial parliament of the Hesse-Nassau province .

In 1895 he moved to the Principality of Lippe as Cabinet Minister (later: Minister of State) . This function corresponded to that of a Prime Minister . He was the leading official in the state during the height of the Lippe succession dispute. When Count Ernst zur Lippe-Biesterfeld was awarded the regency in the dispute in 1897 , von Oertzen asked for his release. Subsequently, he became regional president of the (Prussian) Hohenzollern country , from 1900 to 1908 of the administrative district of Lüneburg .

He was married to Constance born on November 8, 1881. Baroness von Senarclens-Grancy, daughter of the Grand Ducal Hessian head stable master and major general à la suite Baron August Ludwig von Senarclens-Grancy . The couple had six children, including the superior general of the sororities of the German Red Cross Luise von Oertzen .
