Georg Friedrich Christoph Cöster (* 23. October 1780 in Upper Listingen ; † 7. September 1839 in Hanau ) was a German administrative officer and district administrator of the district of Hanau 1821-1839.

Origin and education

He was born the son of a pastor. He was a student at the Lyceum Fridericianum in Kassel and then studied law at the University of Göttingen from 1799 to 1801 , then at the University of Marburg .

Career

First he became legal advisor and secretary to Prince Ernst Konstantin von Hessen-Philippsthal . Together with the prince he made extensive trips that took him to Holland, Paris and Leipzig. He then went to the state service of the Kingdom of Westphalia and held functions in its financial administration in Hersfeld . After the restoration , he was apparently taken over into the administration of the Electorate of Hesse without any difficulties and moved to Hanau within the financial administration in 1815. For a time he was also the bailiff of Nentershausen . The intercession of the Prince of Hessen-Philippsthal and that of Cöster's uncle Hermann Friedrich Wetzel , who had become a councilor in Kassel during the restoration of the electoral state, helped with the assumption of service in the Electorate of Hesse .

With the administrative reform in Elector Hesse after Elector Wilhelm II took office in 1821, (rural) districts were created, initially headed by a district council . The current official title, District Administrator , was only introduced in 1835. Georg Friedrich Cöster became district administrator - and later: district administrator - of the Hanau district , an office that he held until his death in 1839.

family

Georg Friedrich Cöster was married to Luise Dithmar, daughter of the businessman and mayor Johann Philipp Dithmar from Homberg. They had six sons and a daughter .:
