Martin Woythal (* 13. November 1928 in Uslar ; † 9 November 2012 in Frankfurt am Main ) was from 1968 to 1974 last district of the county Hanau .

Mayor in Großkrotzenburg

Martin Woythal began his professional life with an administrative career in Uslar. As a member of the SPD , he was elected mayor of Großkrotzenburg , then the Hanau district in Hesse , in 1958 . During the time of the economic miracle , it was possible for him to invest extensively in the community's infrastructure . In his first two years in office, a sewer system was built in Großkrotzenburg for the first time since the Romans . Roads were given a solid surface, three kilometers of street lighting were laid out and an indoor swimming pool was built. His tenure also that fell in the district , the Staudinger power plant of Prussia Elektra settled, the largest commercial taxpayers of the community. During this time, the village developed into a modern community, and the SPD's share of the vote climbed to 64.3%.

District Administrator of the Hanau District

On April 1, 1968, Martin Woythal was elected district administrator for the Hanau district, in which his party, the SPD, led with a majority. So he was able to invest heavily here - still in the time of the economic miracle - eight comprehensive schools with sports facilities and indoor swimming pools, the youth center in Ronneburg, the school camp in Bernau in the Black Forest and several town houses were newly built. With the project of a classless hospital near Hochstadt , however, he failed due to financial difficulties.

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , various models were discussed for the Hanau district. The districts of Hanau (SPD-led), Gelnhausen and Schlüchtern (both CDU-led) eventually merged into the most populous district in Hesse and at the same time the largest in terms of area in southern Hesse . The merger, supported by Martin Woythal, was completed on July 1, 1974. The underlying idea that the relatively populous Hanau district would lead to an SPD majority in the new Main-Kinzig district did not work: In the first elections for the new greater district in 1974, Martin Woythal was barely defeated by Hans Rüger (CDU), the previous district administrator of the Gelnhausen district, who thus became the first district administrator of the Main-Kinzig district. Martin Woythal could not cope politically with this defeat: He withdrew from politics.
