Life and career

As the son of the landlord and Richard von KK chamberlain Maximilian Friedrich Freiherr von der Vorst-Lombeck and Gudenau and his wife Ottilie, born Freiin von Mirbach zu Harff, Richard Freiherr von Vorst-Gudenau already had close ties to the Austrian Empire through his descent . This probably also resulted in the fact that after attending a grammar school he went to Vienna to study (1826/1827) and in 1831 was employed as an intern at the Criminal Higher Court in Brno . From December 1837, von Vorst-Gudenau was employed as a government trainee with the Royal Prussian Government in Düsseldorf , which assigned him to the Grevenbroich District Office from 1838 to 1840. As the successor to Paul Joseph Freiherr von Pröpper , he took over provisional administration of the district on January 1, 1840. This appointment was confirmed on August 6, subject to the district administrator's examination, before he also received the definitive inauguration on July 7, 1841. During his tenure, the district office of the district was relocated from Wevelinghoven to Grevenbroich .

After the death of his uncle Johann Wilhelm von Mirbach-Harff in 1849, Richard Freiherr von Vorst-Gudenau inherited his entails. With confirmation from the highest authority on May 31, 1850, he finally also took over his name, title and coat of arms. Due to these family changes, Richard asked Baron von Vorst-Gudenau on May 27, 1850 to leave because of private activities. With dimissorial letters of 7 September he entered August 1, 1850 to retire . At the same time he was appointed secret councilor .

As a member of the “right”, Richard Freiherr von Vorst-Gudenau, or Mirbach-Harff, was a member of the Prussian National Assembly in 1848 and a member of the state parliament from 1849 until his departure in 1851 .
