Dimissoriale

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dimissoriale (Latin "discharge certificate") is a confirmation that allows a church official act for a certain occasion ( casualie ) to be carried out in a community other than one's own local community ( parish ) that should actually carry it out. The dimissorial letters is the pastor or priest issued their own local church.

The word is only used in the Protestant churches. In the Roman Catholic Church , the conduct of a wedding in a parish other than the local parish is regulated in the marriage preparation protocol ; for all other casualia an informal agreement between the parish discharging and the executing parish is sufficient. There are no dimissorials from one denomination to another.

An official act with a dimissoriale can be a baptism , church wedding , confirmation or church burial . Up until the beginning of the 20th century, a dimissorial was often required in the Protestant church to take part in the Lord's Supper in another congregation, as otherwise the exclusion from the Lord's Supper for reasons of church discipline could have been circumvented.

With the Dimissoriale, for example, the couple is transferred to the desired parish, allowing them to perform the official act even though the couple does not belong to it. At least one person (bride or groom) must be a member of the Church. On the other hand, especially for weddings in some regional churches, a dimissorial is often not necessary at all, as the number of responsible parishes has often been greatly expanded. In the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland, up to seven parishes are conceivable as responsible parishes, namely: the parish in which the bride or groom has their place of residence before the wedding, the parish in which the couple has their place of residence after the wedding and the Parishes in which the parents are resident.

According to more recent legal provisions, in some regional churches the dimissorial is no longer required in all cases in writing, but can be given orally, e.g. B. by a phone call between the two parish offices. Some regional churches have anchored free parish elections in their church constitution and thus abolished the dimissiorial in principle.

Not to be confused with the Dimissoriale, however, is the patent certificate . This is required if someone wants to assume the sponsorship office in a church other than his own . Since the sponsorship includes the promise to contribute to the Christian upbringing of the children, the affiliation of the sponsors to a church is essential. The Protestant church generally accepts all sponsors who belong to a member church of the Working Group of Christian Churches in Germany .
