action

Kami'en's son is born in Vena with Amalie, the princess of Australia. Its skin is made of moonstone and is transparent. The child, who could only survive through the magic of the dark fairy, Kami'en's former lover, disappears without a trace the next day. The now suspected dark fairy flees to the east with Donnersmarck, who, having returned from the child eater, is now hoping for a cure because of the curse of the deer calf. She intends to find the fate-weaver there who can cut the golden thread that is made of love and ties her to kami'en.

Jacob and Fuchs have safely returned to the human world with the witch-slayer's crossbow. While Fuchs goes to the other side after a few days, Jacob wants to find a safe place for the crossbow. His attempt to hide it in the Metropolitan Museum of Art fails. He is captured by Johann Norebo Earlking, who turns out to be one of the many characters in the Erlelf player. Player demands the price from Jacob for showing him the right way in the blue beard's labyrinth: he wants his first child, which Jacob will have together with Fuchs. During this encounter Jacob learns that the Erlelves have succeeded in creating living mirror beings who can take on the faces of people, who are reflected in them and can turn people and things into silver.

One of the mirror creatures puts Clara into a magical sleep with the help of a brooch, from which she is unable to wake anything. Will, who visits her in the hospital, is missed by the player. The player blames the dark fairy for Clara's magical sleep and asks Will to kill the dark fairy with the crossbow so that everything can be as it was intended to be again. Will goes behind the mirror and, with the Goyl Nerron and under the guard of the mirror beings Sixteen and Seventeen, follows the dark fairy to Varangia, the Russia in our world. Nerron hopes from the initially played care to find through Will Jacob, on whom he wants to take revenge for the theft of the crossbow in the lost city. Furthermore, Nerron wants to find the mirror through which Will came into the mirror world and bring back the Jadegoyl fireplace with the prospect of fame and recognition.

After Fuchs goes through the mirror again, she finds Jacob and another Erlelfen prisoner, Sylvain Fowler, and is able to free both of them. Together they go through the mirror again and also travel east to find Will.

John Reckless, Jacob's father, worked for years as an Albanian engineer under the code name Isambard Brunel after his escape from the Goyl prisons , but is captured by Hentzau in Lorraine and taken to the Tsar's prison in Varangia.

Nerron finds the crossbow in Will's fake bag, but is prevented by the Mirror Beings Sixteen and Seventeen from stealing it. It turns out that Will can call the Jade in dangerous situations and thus become a Goyl again.

Jacob and Fuchs are attacked by a mirror creature and turned into silver. They are found by Jacob's former teacher Albert Chanute and his new friend and companion Sylvain Fowler, who followed them on the advice of the witch Alma. He can only heal Jacob with Alma's magic potion, Fuchs was silver-plated with his lips closed and so this magic potion cannot be given to her. Jacob goes to a Baba Jaga , who finally heals him and gives him a rushnyky, a healing witch's cloth, in exchange for the payment of a fox fur dress. Before Fuchs is freed from the silver, Jacob sets off again to the house of Baba Yaga to get the fur dress back, but is captured by her and can only be saved by Fuchs. The trip goes on.

Behind the Varangian border, Jacob the red fairy appears and implores him to find her dark sister before his brother kills her.

In Moskva, the Varangian capital, the friends stay for a few days with a friend of Chanute's to meet the dark fairy, who is rumored to be in Moskva. At the tsar's ball, Fuchs dances with an Albian spy named Orlando and is plagued by conflicting emotions. She goes out with him and sleeps with him two days later. Meanwhile, Jacob is in an audience with the Tsar and asks, ostensibly to find treasure for him, the fastest magic carpet from his collection to follow Will. Before they can leave, Orlando is captured because he, an Albian spy, was supposed to steal treasure from the Tsar's collection and failed. Jacob frees him for Fuchs. With him, John Reckless is also freed, but he does not reveal himself to his son out of fear.

The mirror creatures chase Nerron away because they consider him useless, but he continues to follow Will until he is distracted from his trail by mysterious voices.

Jacob, Orlando, John Reckless alias Brunel and their helpers hide in a painter's workshop. A few days later they set out on the magic carpet to find Will, but only Fuchs and Jacob know the true destination of the journey. As they rest, John Reckless reveals himself to his son, but only earns anger. Desperate Jacob runs away and meets Fuchs, whereupon they kiss. Out of cowardice, John steals the carpet and flies away with it - he names Alberica as his destination. Orlando leaves Fuchs and Jacob, not without giving them a hint how they can find the dark fairy. The weaver has found it in the meantime and is freed from her love for Kami'en, but also from her immortality. Will finds the dark fairy, is stopped by Nerron, but shoots her. Thundersmark attacks Will in the form of the stag. However, Nerron saves Will with the crossbow, without Nerron being able to explain his deed.

When the jade returns a little later, Will realizes that he has only been used by the player and sets off to take revenge on him. Nerron accompanies him on the condition that Will shows him the mirror that connects this world with the other. Jacob and Fuchs follow Will's trail.

The player enters the mirror world through his personal mirror. But he is dismayed to discover that despite the extermination of the fairies, he is beginning to turn into a silver alder. The player then concludes that there must be a beacon of hope for the fairies, i.e. a person thanks to whom part of the curse of the fairies, which causes him and his kind to be transformed into an alder as soon as they enter the mirror world, continues to work.
