Reclam's opera guide

Reclam's opera guide is a widely used opera guide . It was first published in 1928 by Philipp Reclam jun. in Stuttgart . From the 14th edition from 1950 onwards, it was published by Wilhelm Zentner . The work by Rolf Fath has been published since the 34th completely revised edition from 1994 . The current 40th edition from 2013 has a length of 1,076 pages and provides information on over 220 operas.

Structure / content

The opera guide contains a short foreword, the dictionary and an appendix.

The lexicon section contains the composers ' biographies , information about the librettists and information about the genesis and course of the operas. This part is arranged chronologically according to the composer's dates of birth and illustrated with scenic color photos from performances.

The appendix includes - in alphabetical order - a list of the composers and their described operas as well as a list of the operas.
