Record of Lodoss War

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Record of Lodoss War ( Japanese ロ ー ド ス 島 戦 記 Rōdosu-tō Senki , literally: "War history of the island of Lodoss") by Ryō Mizuno from Group SNE is a Japanese replay and novel series that deals with the everlasting conflict between goods and evil goes on the island of Lodoss. The series was created against the role-playing game background of Dungeons and Dragons and in turn produced the Sword World RPG . In addition to the book series, it includes several manga cycles, anime series and video games.

content

The story is based on a primal conflict between Faris , the goddess of light, and Faralis , the goddess of darkness. Their struggle shook the whole world, and in the end only two of their faithful stood face to face: the goddess of creation Marfa and Kardis , the goddess of destruction, who shattered the continent of Alecrast in their devastating duel, so that a new island separated from it: the cursed island of Lodoss . After that, both goddesses fell into an eternal sleep, exhausted.

The plot of the novels, manga and anime begins a few thousand years later, when Lodoss is inhabited by many different peoples and the original conflict has already been completely forgotten.

The world

The island of Lodoss, on which two cycles of the series are set, is a subcontinent that has been located south of the larger continent Alecrast since it split from the mainland. The seven nations on Lodoss are described below:

Allania
Allania is the home nation of Parn , Eto and Slain . It is located in the northwest of Lodoss near the “forest of no return”, which Parn and his companions also had to roam. Allania's knights are a bit rude and rude, which makes them the complete opposite of the knights from Valis. Allania's most famous cities are Tarba, Zaxon, Novis, Myse and the capital Allan. A geographical feature are e.g. B. the “White Dragon Mountains” on the northern headland. During the Hero's War, Allania was one of the first nations to be conquered. The then King Kadomos VII was murdered by Emperor Beld . King Vise, who came to power after defeating Beld, has voluntarily allied himself with the strengthened Marmo in order to expand Allania's territory and also to become ruler of Lodoss. However, he is brought to his knees by King Cashew .
Flaim
The desert nation of Flaim is the seat of the mercenary king Kashew . It is located in the northern center of Lodoss and north of the so-called “Lake of Tranquility”. Well-known cities are the capital Blade with its formative palace Akhroyd and Hiruto. Historically, Flaim is significant in every way. Due to the large military presence, they were involved in almost every major war and, for example, fought together with Valis against Marmo in the Heroes' War. As more and more people sought refuge in Flaim due to the chaos of war, they ran into a supply problem. Kashew had to plow the Western Plains. Since the dragon shooting star from the fire dragon mountain did not like this, he destroyed the entire settlement. He could only be defeated in a tough battle with the three Mythril Lances.
canon
Canon is a nation on the southern coast of Lodoss. Bigger cities are for example Adan, the port Rude and the capital Kanon. Due to its close proximity to Marmo, it was the first target of the campaign of conquest by Emperor Beld during the Hero's War. Since the ruler King Kanon had given up almost any military training, they could not offer much resistance. Kanon became one of the most important points of conquest for Emperor Beld , as it was the starting point from which he could gradually attack the mainland.
Marmo
Marmo is an island on the south coast of Lodoss. This is where Emperor Beld , Ashram and Vagnard have their headquarters, who have made it their goal to bring Lodoss under their rule. But all in different ways. Inside Marmo, Nars, one of the six original dragons, is still resting and Kardis, too, sleeps here with her avatar Naneel. One geographical feature is, for example, the ghost forest to the east.
Moss
Moss is a neutral nation on the southwest coast of Lodoss. Prince Jester sits here with his dragon riders. In the Heroic Wars, Moss usually took on the role of scout. Here is also the dwarf tunnel that Parn and his companions go through to get to the great wise word. Another feature is that all major cities begin with the word "dragon".
Raiden
Raiden is in the northwest of Lodoss. Raiden stays out of most of the machinations around Lodoss and always remains neutral. Its good geographical location makes it an important trading nation. The many mercenaries who are in the city are usually hired as guardians.
Valis
Valis is known as the holy city of Lodoss. It is the seat of King Fawn and the Holy Knight Guard of Valis. The capital is Falis (original name from the goddess Falis ). It is known that Valis has the most fearless and strongest knights.

Influences

The content of the series is essentially based on western fantasy literature and its interpretation of European mythologies. In contrast to many other Japanese series, such as Oh My Goddess , Record of Lodoss War, untypically, does not interpret these western elements from a Japanese perspective.
