Recreo is the capital of the La Paz Department in the Catamarca Province in northwest Argentina . It is located on the western edge of the province at an altitude of 220 meters and has 11,847 inhabitants (2010, INDEC). The distance to the provincial capital San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca is 206 kilometers. Recreo can be reached via the Ruta Nacional 157 and Ruta Provincial 20 or via the Ruta Provincial 111 .
