Red Perkins

Red Perkins (born December 26, 1890 in Muchakinock , Iowa as Frank Shelton Perkins , † September 27, 1976 in Minneapolis ) was an American trumpeter and big band leader in the field of swing and popular music .

Red Perkins was born on the grounds of the Consolidation Coal Company near Muchakinock, a coal mine near Oskaloosa, Iowa . His band, Red Perkins and His Dixie Ramblers were one of the first Territory bands in the Omaha area , The Dixie Ramblers , one of Omaha's most popular dance bands for twenty years, were booked by the National Orchestra Service to tour Nebraska, Iowa and the Dakotas . They then also played in Kansas City and the Congress Hotel in Chicago . Perkins recorded with his band for the Gennett and RCA Victor labels . In later years Perkins worked as a photographer in Minneapolis.
