Red Tide was an American progressive death metal band from Avon , Connecticut that was formed in 1993 and split up in 2002. She is considered one of the most important representatives of the genre in the 1990s.

history

The band was formed in 1993 by singer and guitarist Jeff Wu, guitarist Ian Kauffman, bassist Andy Dickins and drummer Justin Foley. In the following years, Steps to the End (1994), Expressions (1995) and Hybrid (1996) three demos were released. In 1997 the debut album called Themes of the Cosmic Consciousness was released. In 2001 the album Type II was released, on which the new bassist Matt "Blue" Ouellette could be heard. In 2002 the band split up again. Drummer Foley has been with the band Killswitch Engage since 2004 .

style

The band plays technically demanding and experimental progressive death metal, with influences from jazz and bossa nova being audible. The band's works are compared to the pieces by other bands in the genre such as Cynic and Atheist . Guttural singing alternates with clear singing.
