A road sign to Rednaxela Terrace

Rednaxela Terrace ( Chinese  列 拿 士 地 臺 ) is a pedestrian street in the mid-levels of Hong Kong . It is 63 meters long and joins Shelley Street to the west and Peel Street to the east.

Surname

The name of the street is a palindrome because it reads backwards like "Alexander". Although there is no official evidence of the origin of the name, it is assumed that the road through the grounds was one of Alexander and "Rednaxela" erroneous transliteration was the English name "Alexander" was written as the Chinese language or from right to left . Most of the naming errors in Hong Kong are due to incorrect or inaccurate translations, transliterations or transcriptions , although some consider this Hong Kong unique error of right-to-left transcription among the colonial bureaucrats to be unthinkable. Another explanation would be that the street name is related to the name "Rednaxela" used by the abolitionist Robert Alexander Young in his 1829 work Ethiopian Manifesto . Whatever the origin of the name, the Chinese transliteration adopted it, it became known in the area and the government made no changes.
