Reebok Pump is a sports shoe technology from the late 1980s . With the Reebok Pump, the Reebok company developed a technology with the aim of optimizing the fit of the shoe using individually inflatable air cushions. Initially, the technology was used in basketball boots, as the correct fit of the shoe is particularly important in this sport in order to minimize the risk of injury. These basketball boots quickly developed into popular fashion items thanks to their unmistakable appearance. The small basketball attached to the tongue, which was used to inflate the shoes, was the main distinguishing feature. Development of the shoe began in 1988 and it was available in stores from November 1989.

The technology was later used in running and cross training shoes. Depending on the sport, different arrangements of the air cushions are used. The air cushions can stabilize the entire foot , the metatarsus or just the shaft.

The Reebok Pump is such a popular shoe model that in 2005 the Reebok company brought retro models of the first basketball boot equipped with this system onto the market, some in strictly limited editions.

Current models are also equipped with the pump system, although there are variations that can be inflated semi-automatically using a CO 2 cartridge and fully automatically using a pump integrated in the sole.
