biography

Little is known about Sharif Talib Lacey's childhood. However, it is known that during this time he played in many theater plays and that he first came into contact with hip-hop at the age of eight. In Philadelphia high school, Reef had great success battles against other MCs and soon gained a reputation as one of the best MCs in Philadelphia. Soon after, he received a scholarship from the Philadelphia University of the Arts. It was in this college that he realized his dream of becoming a rapper.

At the age of 19 he left the said college and started his first solo project with producer Sleep E. The ensuing 10-track album (The High Life) was released in 2002 and opened all doors for him to the hip-hop business. He began performing in local clubs and quickly became popular with fans and the media.

In February 2003 Reef released his next 18 track album called Invisible Empire. In the same year he proved his great talent with 1st place in the Mic Check Battle in Philadelphia. Shortly afterwards he went to Oakland (California) and took 2nd place in the Blaze Freestyle Battle. Reef mentioned in interviews what progress he had made in this short time and that he had developed professionally and privately, he lost his fear and developed from a simple MC to a recognized (hip-hop) musician.

In 2004, he performed at the Beat Society's Production Competition in New York and won the Riddle Records Mic Check Battle. In July he was named "End of the Weak Challenge" champion at the Rock Steady Crew 27th Anniversary.

Reef put much of his personal and business experience into his next album, "Feast or Famine" (2005). The artist commented on the album with the following words: "This album represents me in my best form, I know who I am as a person, but more than that I have become aware of what I can do as an artist, I feel like a professional right now." "The beats are more acoustic than ever and even though the songs on this project have gotten darker, they still have a general appeal that anyone can connect with."

Reef is not only a member of the JuJu Mob , but has also been an integral part of the Army of the Pharaohs since 2006 .

In 2007 Reef the Lost Cauze was involved in the Snowgoons ' single "Never" . The album German Lugers with the song was released in February 2007 via Babygrande Records . In 2008 Reef the Lost Cauze was again involved in the Snowgoons' single "This Is Where the Fun Stops" from the album Black Snow .
