Reesendamm Bridge
The Reesendamm Bridge is a bridge in downtown Hamburg and was built in 1843/44 on the site of the Reesendamm , which roughly ran there.
It spans the Kleine Alster in the extension of the Jungfernstieg and the Bergstrasse and was named in memory of the miller Heinrich Reese, who ran a grain mill there around 1270. During the construction of the bridge, the second Alster barrage located there was relocated to the area of today's town hall lock.
Since April 1934, the Jungfernstieg underground station has been located under the southern part of the bridge, at that time the terminus of the so-called Kelljunglinie . For the construction of the station, the bridge had to be partially demolished and rebuilt.
At the end of the 1960s, today's Jungfernstieg rapid transit junction was built. The City-S-Bahn station now runs across the bridge and the existing underground station.
