The Reformation Church is a church building of the Evangelical Church in Cologne-Bayenthal .

history

The church was built from 1903 to 1905 according to plans by the architect Otto March . The building was badly damaged by bombing during World War II. It was rebuilt between 1958 and 1961. As a result, the orientation of the church was changed: the chancel is now facing south.

description

Of particular importance is the 15 meter high concrete glass window, which was created in 1961 by the artist Eugen Keller . It shows creation striving for Christ. In the upper area you can see Christ, sitting on a rainbow, with the globe at his feet. The lines of the concrete structure represent the movement of creation (people, animals, moon and stars) towards Christ.

organ

organ

The organ of the Reformation Church was built in 1954 by the organ builder Willi Peter (Cologne) for the Martin Luther House in Cologne-Bayenthal and placed on the west gallery in the Reformation Church in 1965. The instrument had 34 stops on three manual works and a pedal. The two pedal towers flanking the window rosette house the main mechanism and the pedal mechanism. The swell is placed under the rosette, the Rückpositiv integrated into the parapet. In 2016, the organ was restored by the Freiburg Orgelbau company (Hartwig and Tilmann Späth) from March-Hugstetten and re -voiced to match the dry acoustics of the church. In addition, the disposition is expanded: The main work receives four additional registers; On the gallery opposite the organ, an auxiliaire work with 7 registers is set up, which is controlled from the main console of the organ. The organ will have 45 stops on three manual works and a pedal.
