The Reformed Church in Schmitten in Prättigau is a Protestant - Reformed church under the monument of the canton of Grisons . The church with a small onion helmet on a roof turret is located with a terraced cemetery on a hillside at the top of the hamlet and only a few hundred meters before the village crossing to Grüsch .

History and equipment

The church was built half a century after the Graubünden turmoil in 1695/96 for the Reformed citizens of Schmitten and Pardisla and was consecrated on June 21, 1696. In 1972/73 a restoration was carried out in which the pulpit without a sound cover was lowered and a gallery was installed on the west side . The ceiling was also renewed, divided into 70 fields and decorated with the help of stencil painting.

The church interior presents itself as an east-facing hall church . Above the pulpit on the east wall, which is preceded by a baptismal table , is the biblical word: «Jesus Christ says: I am the light of the world. Joh 8,12 »The organ dates from 1970, has a manual and five stops .

Church organization

Schmitten forms a parish with Seewis , where the rectory is also located. The Evangelical Reformed Regional Church of Graubünden runs Schmitten as a preaching site within the Colloquium IX Prättigau .
