Reformed Church Untervaz
The Reformed Church in Untervaz in Chur Rhine Valley in the historic landscape of the five villages is an Evangelical - Reformed church under the monument of the canton of Grisons . It is located in the center of the village and has a capacity for 240 people.
History and equipment
Untervaz was one of the most denominationally controversial villages in Graubünden. Even before the turmoil in Graubünden broke out in 1611/12, a dispute broke out between the Catholic majority, who were concerned about the unity of the village, and the Reformed minority, who demanded an evangelical sermon, about the rights to use the common church . The tensions sometimes meant that the respective clergy could only go to worship under the protection of armed fellow believers.
Finally, in 1700, its own reformed church was built. In 1970 it was renovated for the last time, with the church tower being given a free roof . In 1984 a new organ was installed. In 1996 a color window with the "story of creation" by Fritz J. Dold was installed.
Church organization
Linked to Zizers for a long time , Untervaz formed a pastoral community with Haldenstein from 1992 to 2012 . The pastor has lived in the then newly built rectory in Untervaz since 1975. The Evangelical Reformed Church Graubünden leads Untervaz after the dissolution of Pastorationsvertrags with Haldenstein as a separate parish within the colloquium V reign - Five villages .
