This church building is the only Protestant Reformed parish church in the federal state of Upper Austria.

The Evangelical Reformed Parish Church

The Reformed Parish Church Linz-Leonding was built in 1952–1953. The parsonage in Haidfeldstrasse was ready to move into in 1952, and the parish church was consecrated on October 17, 1953. In 2000, the new electric organ began its service. The organ is a pipe organ with 7 registers by the German organ builder Link. The bell tower was only erected in 2003. The parish church is built in the context of the Calvinist church architecture and is therefore typically kept simple. The church has benches, an ambo, the sacrament table, and a baptismal font.

History of the Evangelical Reformed Congregation

The history of the Evangelical Reformed parish Linz-Leonding is closely linked to the people who lived as German-speaking settlers in southern Hungary , Slavonia and Vojvodina from 1722 . These Christians, who followed the teachings of Johannes Calvin and Heinrich Bullinger , accepted the designation HB for Helvetic Confession in the Austrian states from the 1781 patent on tolerance . In the years 1944 to 1946, these German-speaking settlements were expelled, and a group of around 1,000 people found their new home in the Linz area.

This group of people gathered under the leadership of Pastor Heinrich Bolz and with the help of Preacher Heinrich Benz, who were themselves refugees, with the support of the Aid Organization of the Evangelical Churches of Switzerland (HEKS) to form a Reformed church community in Linz. A pastoral care for refugees developed in the Wartberg an der Krems, Sattledt, Lambach, Linz, Innviertel and Salzburg areas. In Traun-St.Martin and Linz-Leonding (Doppl / Hart), building plots were purchased from 1950 and settlement houses were built for the refugees, followed by the completion of the church in 1953. At the church, the construction of a bell tower was initially waived, this money later went into the construction of the kindergarten.

After the uprising in Hungary against communism, the next wave of refugees came to Protestant Reformed Christians. In 1958 a block of flats for 18 Hungarian families was built near the church. In addition to social institutions, the municipality built a kindergarten (in Sandgasse) and, from 1964, a residential home for the elderly (St. Martin, Defreggergasse).

The kindergarten was sold to the city of Leonding in 1989 in order to raise funds for the new construction of the community center. The new community hall opened in 1993. In order to make the building easier to recognize as a church, a bell tower was erected for the first time. In 1994 the parish got a curator for the first time who was not born in the "old home". For the 50th anniversary of the congregation in October 2003, a "real" bell rang the service for the first time in the new narrow bell tower.
