Rain in the Mountains ( Chinese  空 山 靈 雨  /  空 山 灵 雨 , Pinyin kōng shān líng yǔ ) is a 1979 film by King Hu .

action

The dying abbot of a Buddhist monastery should choose his successor. He also invites secular officials to the monastery for advice. However, these pursue their own plans and there is intrigue and fighting. In the end, to everyone's amazement, a former convict is chosen as the new abbot.
