The Dnipro Regiment ( Ukrainian Полк Дніпро) is a voluntary Ukrainian combat unit founded in April 2014 .

history

The association was set up in the context of the crisis in Ukraine in 2014 on the initiative and with financial support of the multibillionaire and oligarch Ihor Kolomojskyj to militarily fight the pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine .

According to media reports from June and August 2014, the combat unit has a strength of 2000 to 5000 men. Some of the regiment's trainers are said to come from abroad, for example from Israel , Romania and Georgia . Kolomoyskyi has invested a total of around 10 million US dollars in setting up the combat unit.

The regiment is stationed in Dnipro , but has also been used in combat operations outside of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast . There are reports that the battalion or part of it is stationed in the immediate vicinity of the city of Donetsk . Like the other voluntary Ukrainian combat units, the Dnipro battalion is formally subordinate to the Ministry of Interior of Ukraine or the National Guard , but is not integrated into the Ukrainian army .
