Cherries of the Regina variety

The Regina cherry variety is a sweet cherry from Germany. It belongs to the cartilaginous cherries and ripens very late.

origin

The variety was bred in 1957 by the fruit growing research institute Jork from the varieties Schneider's late cartilage cherry and rube . It has been commercially grown since 1987 and is now one of the most frequently marketed cherry varieties in Germany.

fruit

The fruit is very large, built high and weighs up to about 13 grams. For a cartilage cherry, the skin is very burst-resistant with a red-brown to black color. The flesh is firm with little juice. The stone is small. It ripens from the 6th cherry week to the 8th cherry week.

tree

The tree is robust, fast-growing, compact and upright pyramidal with medium location requirements. It flowers very late and, as it is self-sterile , needs a late-blooming fertilization partner. Schneider's late cartilage cherry , Alma , Erika and Sylvia are suitable .
