Regina Schmidt-Zadel

Regina Schmidt-Zadel , nee Schmidt , (born January 20, 1937 in Horbach ) is a German politician (SPD). Her focus is on health and disability policy.

Life

education and profession

After attending school, Schmidt-Zadel graduated from a technical school for social work, which she completed with a degree as a social worker. She then worked as a social worker in various areas of social work, most recently as a department head at the Mettmann district .

Politics and public offices

Schmidt-Zadel joined the SPD in 1969. She was deputy chairwoman of the Ratingen local association and since 1998 chairwoman of the Mettmann sub-district. From 1980 to 1996 she was ARSP sub-district chairwoman Mettmann and from 1990 to 1998 a member of the district board. From 1984 to 1991 Schmidt-Zadel was a member of the Rhineland Landscape Assembly , most recently as deputy chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group.

From December 20, 1990 to October 26, 2002 she was a member of the German Bundestag for three electoral terms . She was elected in 1998 in the constituency of Mettmann II directly and previously via the state list of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in North Rhine-Westphalia . From 2000 she was spokeswoman for health and disability policy for the SPD parliamentary group. From 2001 until she left the Bundestag, she was also a member of the SPD parliamentary committee.

From 2004 she was the first disability officer in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia , an office that she held until the change of government in 2005. In the field of health policy, she also took on various voluntary functions, including a. chaired the Contergan Foundation, where she was able to double the pensions at that time. She is the federal chairwoman of the Action for Mentally Ill people, deputy state chairwoman of Lebenshilfe NRW, a member of the board of the state disability council and deputy chairwoman of the Alzheimer Society NRW . Since 2003 she has also been a deputy member of the WDR Broadcasting Council .
