Sternocleidomastoid muscle

The sternocleidomastoid region is one of the neck regions and its extension roughly corresponds to that of the muscle of the same name . This muscle is visible through the skin on the stretched or sideways neck of the neck. In lean people, a dimple called the supraclavicular minor fossa may be visible between the two muscle origins . The paired sternocleidomastoid region lies between the unpaired anterior cervical region and the respective lateral cervical region .

Under the muscle lies the vascular nerve cord of the neck with the carotid artery , jugular veins and the vagus nerve . In addition, the upper root of the ansa cervicalis attaches to the carotid artery.
