Regiomontanus is an impact crater in the southwest of the front of the moon , east of Mare Nubium , immediately south of Purbach crater and west of Werner .
The oval rim of the crater is very badly eroded.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German astronomer and mathematician Regiomontanus (actually Johannes Müller).
