Regulator tube

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In a steam locomotive, the regulator pipe or regulator knee pipe guides the steam from the steam dome to the steam collecting box in the smoke chamber . In the case of the standard locomotives, the regulator pipe to the steam room is closed off with a wet steam regulator. In the steam locomotives of the Deutsche Bundesbahn from 1950 on, only the shut-off valve of the regulator pipe is located in the cathedral (also called the auxiliary shut-off valve). The actual controller was installed as a superheated steam controller in the steam collecting box in the smoke chamber.

The regulator is a complicated valve with which the engine driver can finely adjust the steam output from the boiler to the steam engine.
