Regular clerics of the Good Jesus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Regular Clerics of Good Jesus were a Roman Catholic religious order that existed from around 1526 to 1651.

At the suggestion of the Blessed Gentile of Ravenna, a pupil of Blessed Margaret of Ravenna († 1505), the secular priest Girolamo (Hieronymus) Maluselli († 1541) founded the new religious community in Ravenna around 1526 with the support of Priest Leo. The Regular Clerics of Good Jesus were the second Regular Clergy Order after the Theatines founded in 1524 . The male order accepted the Augustinian rule. After the first successes of the religious activity had been set, Pope Julius III confirmed . in 1551 the order, as well as later Pope Paul IV . Despite all efforts, however, the order could not compete with the regular clergy orders of the Theatines and the Jesuits . When the order "had barely more than ten members ", Pope Innocent X on June 22, 1651 ordered its repeal.
