Rehabilitation education

The Rehabilitation Education is a profession of scientific discipline rehabilitation science that deals with the promotion, care, assistance, advice and support to people with physical, mental and / or emotional disabilities employed or impairment and their families. Rehabilitation education is very similar to curative education and special education and was conceptually coined at the universities in the GDR.

Fields of work in rehabilitation education

Rehabilitation educators have solid, broad and at the same time differentiated knowledge of the following central areas of work in extracurricular rehabilitation:

  • Early intervention, rehabilitation for children and young people
  • Professional rehabilitation and educational work in inpatient and outpatient medical and psychosocial rehabilitation of chronically ill and disabled people, in prevention and health promotion as well as in geriatric rehabilitation
  • pedagogical work in the traditional fields of inpatient, semi-inpatient and outpatient assistance for the disabled
  • pedagogical work and integration promotion in intercultural fields of work
