Joseph "Joe" Costa (born July 17, 1992 in Adelaide ) is a former Australian soccer player .

Career

Costa began playing soccer with the Doncaster Rovers in a Melbourne suburb, in the ages U-8 to U-12 he then played in Adelaide for the Western Strikers , then in the U-16 area for Adelaide City . In 2007, 2008 and 2009 Costa received a scholarship from the South Australian Sports Institute . In addition, although originally not part of the squad, he was regularly active in the 2008/09 season for the youth team of Adelaide United in the National Youth League , with which he reached the championship final (0-2 against Sydney FC ). In 2007 and 2008 Costa was a regular part of the Australian U-17 squad . In this context he took part in tournaments in Japan , Hilden , Germany and Los Angeles , United States . In July 2008 he won the AFF U-16 Championship in Jakarta with the team and was also successful as a goalscorer in a 6-0 win in the preliminary round against Indonesia.

In 2009, the offensive player received a professional contract with United and made his debut in the A-League at the start of the 2009/10 season in a 1-0 home win against Perth Glory . A cruciate ligament rupture in September 2009 prevented further missions , an injury that was repeated during a youth game in November 2010 and again resulted in a forced break of several months. His contract, which expired in mid-2011, was not renewed by Adelaide United and Costa briefly continued his career with his youth club Adelaide City in the FFSA Super League .

His younger brother Anthony also played for Adelaide United in the A-League in the 2013/14 season.
