Career

Costa came to Adelaide City as an 11-year-old and went through the youth teams there. In 2009, Costa also received football funding from the South Australian Sports Institute and this year also took part in a screening course for the Australian U-16 selection for the 2010 U-16 Asian Cup. In 2011 he made his debut for the first team in the FFSA Super League , the top division of the state of South Australia . For the 2013/14 season Costa was accepted into the youth team of the professional club Adelaide United and was top scorer in the National Youth League with 14 goals; in the following season he was again Adelaide's top scorer in the youth league with seven goals. He also made his A-League debut on January 3, 2014 in a 2-2 draw against Sydney FC as a substitute , and a week later he played another role in a 2-1 win against eventual champions Brisbane Roar .

Costa trained full-time with the Adelaide United professional squad in the 2014/15 season, but his hopes for a professional contract were not fulfilled. He also continued to work for Adelaide City. In the FFA Cup 2014 he reached the quarter-finals with Adelaide City, with a first round win against the professional club Western Sydney Wanderers and a 1-0 win by a goal against the Brisbane Strikers in the round of 16. The semifinal participation was missed by a 1: 2 after extra time against the Bentleigh Greens . Since 2015 he has played exclusively for Adelaide City again and ended the 2015 season as the club's top scorer in the National Premier League .

In August 2015, the striker completed an unsuccessful trial training session at the Scottish second division club Raith Rovers .

His older brother Joe also played for Adelaide United in the A-League in the 2009/10 season.
