from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Reichenberger Zeitung was a German-language newspaper in Reichenberg (Czech Liberec ).

The newspaper was founded by Heinrich Tugendhold Stiepel in 1860. The founding members of the liberal newspaper also included the industrialists Johann Liebieg and Ignaz Ginzkey . Krerla and Moser were the first to work. The first editor-in-chief was Alexander von Peez , who moved to the newspaper from Prague.

While the circulation of the Reichenberger Zeitung increased, the other newspapers, the Reichenberger Anzeiger , had to cease publication in 1865. Another newspaper was the Reichenberger Wochenblatt .

The Reichenberger Zeitung survived the First World War and had to stop its publication in October 1938 at the instigation of the NSDAP . At that time the newspaper had a circulation of 68,000 copies and was read all over northern Bohemia .

The newspaper experienced a new edition in Germany under the same name by Franz Rubner in 1950 as a news paper for the displaced Sudeten Germans . Today it appears every fortnight as a regional edition of the Sudetendeutsche Zeitung .
