Reichsbund Deutscher Seegeltung

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Reichsbund Deutscher Seegeltung eV , also known as the Deutsches Seegeltungswerk , founded in 1934, was an interest group based in Berlin during the time of National Socialism to increase German power politics on the oceans .

aims

“As Admiral von Trotha explained on the radio on August 30th (1934), the Reichsbund represents the organic merging of all those involved in the expansion of German sea sailing in order to promote the German sea idea among the whole people from here. In every German national comrade an understanding of the great connections between Germany and the wide world outside must be awakened. Every German must know what the great rivers as the lifelines of German power, the coast with its ports as the gateway to the world and the sea, 'the nation's playground', mean for him and our people ...

... Through the strength of the Fuehrer, the German people became a unity. Such a German will to unity can only be used if it is constantly renewed from the eternal pure forces that the people grow out of their blood and homeland .....

.... Establishing this close connection and community of all Germans is the task of every ship with a swastika and black-white-red flag. The navy, the defensive will of Germany as a haven of peace, must give respectful support to this unbroken vitality of our nation ...... "

The Seegeltungswerk worked in the manner of a state-controlled, superordinate propaganda department of the Navy and various groups and institutions that had come together to promote the development of power of the German Reich on the oceans. In the context of the “ Gleichschaltung ” of all associations in the National Socialist German Reich , their activities were not independent and neutral, but subject to the control and censorship of the party. While individuals were still able to become members of the German Fleet Association , the most important predecessor institution, only institutions were permitted to become members of the Reichsbund Deutscher Seegeltung. This enabled the Nazi regime better control and prevented the development of its own dynamics within the largely passive Reichsbund.

organization

The first head of the Reichsbund was Vice Admiral a. D. Adolf von Trotha , who brought it to life together with Captain Hans-Hubertus von Stosch on behalf of Adolf Hitler. After Trotha's death in 1940, Rear Admiral Wilhelm Buße took over the management until the end of the war.

A sub-organization was the Reichsinstitut für Seegeltungsforschung in the German Seegeltungswerk .
