Focus of work

  • Community development and church reform

With his plea for imperfect parishes, Knieling interfered in the parish development and church reform debate and warned against too much belief in feasibility. In rethinking the community , he and Isabel Hartmann, deputy head of the community college, focus on spiritual perspectives and show ways in which renewal processes can be made sustainable in an increasingly complex terrain.

Knieling is particularly interested in: How can we humans speak relevantly about God or the divine power? His thesis is: worship and preaching serve to be mindful of God's presence of mind in everyday life. The dialogue with non-denominational helps him to further develop traditional statements and ways of thinking and to shape them anew.

  • Men and church

Knieling is committed to dealing with issues such as achievement and success, struggle, self-determination, fragile relationships, etc. in church work and worship more often with open curiosity. He is convinced: That would be an asset for men and women alike.
