Reiner Salzer (born February 12, 1942 in Aue (Saxony) ) is a German chemist ( analytical chemistry ) and former professor for bioanalytical chemistry at the TU Dresden .

From 1962 Salzer studied chemistry in Leipzig with a diploma in 1967 and a doctorate under Gerhard Geiseler in 1971 on the intensity of infrared band spectra. As a post-doctoral student he was at the University of Ljubljana with Dušan Hadži (* 1921) and in 1979 he completed his habilitation in Leipzig ( specific interactions and conformations in alkane derivatives ). In 1990 he became a full professor for analytical chemistry at the TU Dresden and headed the Institute for Analytical Chemistry there from 1991 to 2007.

Among other things, he researched various spectroscopies (infrared, Raman), molecular monitoring for the early detection of diseases and biologically active polymers such as artificial or natural ion channels (with optical detection).

In 1990/91 he was visiting professor at the University of Oslo and spent research stays in Canada and the USA.

In 2007 he received the Emich badge of the Austrian Society for Analytical Chemistry, in 2011 the Clemens Winkler Medal and in 2012 the Hanuš Medal of the Czech Chemical Society. He is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences .
