Reinhard Krippner (born March 6, 1862 in Adorf / Vogtl. , † January 19, 1942 in Sausalito , United States ) was one of the earliest German stamp forgers .

Life

Krippner was certainly not the first German stamp forger, but one of the first to forge philatelic material on a large scale and became one of the most notorious stamp forgers of all. Krippner was a stamp dealer and forged stamps on a large scale between 1888 and 1890. In a trial in 1891 it emerged that he had primarily specialized in forged stamp impressions on genuine old German postage stamps. He was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison.

In 1895 he first emigrated to Newfoundland and finally died in Sausalito / California .
