Wolf-Christian Müller

Wolf-Christian Müller (* 1972 ) is a German physicist and university professor .

Life

Müller graduated from the University of Hanover with a degree in physics in 1998 . He then worked at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching near Munich , where he received his Dr. rer. nat. received his doctorate . In 2008 he completed his habilitation in theoretical physics at the University of Bayreuth .

From 1998 to 2000 he worked as a doctoral student at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics. From 2000 to 2001 he worked as a research assistant in the Statistical Physics and Plasma Physics department of the Université libre de Bruxelles and from 2001 to 2003 at the Center for Interdisciplinary Plasma Science, a joint facility of the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics and the Max Planck -Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics . From 2003 to 2009 he headed the Independent Max Planck Research Group Computer-Aided Investigation of Turbulence in Magnetized Plasmas at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics. In 2011 he accepted the professorship for plasma astrophysics at the Technical University of Berlin . Since 2013 he has headed the plasma astrophysics working group at the Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics, of which he has been deputy director since 2013.

2007 to 2013 Müller worked as a representative of the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics member and project manager of the Cluster of Excellence Origin and Structure of the Universe together and 2008-2010 with Manfred Schüssler project manager of a research initiative of the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research and the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics. From 2011 to 2017 he was project leader and member of the steering committee of the Max Planck Princeton Center for Fusion and Astro Plasma Physics together with James Stone .

Müller's main research areas are the non-linear dynamics of complex flows in mostly electrically neutral media and electrically conductive substances influenced by magnetic fields, so-called plasmas . His main focus is on the theory of the phenomenon of turbulence . Müller continues to work on the development and application of numerical algorithms for parallel mainframe systems .
